Human Resources

The Human Resources Department oversees the process to hire new employees for the Village of Oak Park. The department also manages labor relations, personnel administration, equal opportunity and training. Activities include negotiating union contracts, grievance resolution for union and non-union employees, recruiting and screening of prospective employees, benefits administration, developing and facilitating training programs and monitoring compliance with related laws ordinances and policies.

Open positions require applicants to fill out the Application for Employment Form(PDF, 198KB) as well as the Applicant EEO Data Form(PDF, 39KB), unless indicated in the job description. These forms can be submitted digitally to jobs@oak-park.us. Please refer to the specific job listing for additional instructions.

Applying for a Position

To be considered for a position with the Village of Oak Park, applicants must:

  • Meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job announcement with regard to the required education and training, as well as possess the required knowledge, skill and ability as stated in the job announcement.
  • Complete any other application processes or forms as specified in the job announcement.
  • A copy of the Application for Employment Form is available on this web site. Even if not requested, an applicant also may submit an up-to-date resume.

  • Applications for a particular opening are not used for subsequent openings in the same classification unless specifically stated. You will be notified by the Human Resources Department if a job opening will be filled from applications submitted previously.
  • Unsolicited resumes not identifying a specific job opening are not accepted or acknowledged.

Directions for Completing an Application for Employment

  • Make sure that the position applied for is the same as the job title on the Job Announcement.
  • The Application for Employment Form(PDF, 198KB) may be completed and emailed to jobs@oak-park.us. Hardcopy applications may also be mailed in. If you are filling out the Application for Employment Form electronically, please confine answers to the fields specified on the form.
  • Complete all questions in Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the application. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • In the event a resume or additional application materials are required on the job announcement, such materials must be completed and submitted as directed in the job announcement and prior to the close of the application period.
  • If you are completing the Application for Employment Form(PDF, 198KB) electronically, you may type your name at the end of the application preceded by a /s/ to indicate your signature. If you are selected for employment, you will be required to sign the Application for Employment Form.
  • Please complete the Applicant EEO Data Form(PDF, 39KB). This information is filed separately from your application and is necessary for the Village to satisfy certain reporting requirements.

The Village of Oak Park offers internship opportunities to area university and college students who are interested in learning more about our Progressive 21st Century policing model. The Oak Park Police Department offers full and part-time internship opportunities throughout the year. These unpaid internships give students educational training and hands-on experience in a variety of policing services throughout the Village. Under the supervision of our professional police force, interns will receive a semester of learning that may include opportunities with our Residential Beat Officer program, School Resource Officer Program, Patrol, Records Division, Community Service Officer program, Parking Enforcement, Detective Bureau, Evidence Division and more.

All internships are unpaid and interns are expected to abide by Oak Park Police Department Rules and regulations designed to ensure safety, confidentiality, and respect to the Oak Park community.
