Annual Vehicle License
All vehicles owned by Oak Park residents must obtain a current vehicle license. Vehicles leased or owned by businesses but stored in Oak Park overnight and on weekends must have a vehicle license as well. Vehicle licenses must be renewed annually. Renewal applications are mailed in May to residents who previously registered vehicles in Oak Park. Residents who receive a renewal application may renew or purchase online, by mail or in person at Village Hall.
Vehicle licenses are issued through an automated system that allows parking enforcement officers to use electronic license plate recognition technology to scan a plate and know if the owner is in compliance with the local vehicle registration law. There will be no sticker to apply to your vehicle's windshield.

Fees
The vehicle licenses fee is $74 for passenger cars. Cars owned by persons 65 years old and older, and persons with disability license plates pay a reduced fee. Trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds and buses also must be licensed, the fee varying by type of vehicle. View a list of rates by category(PDF, 57KB).
Deadlines
Vehicle licenses must be obtained before July 15 of each year. The vehicle license rates increase by $20 after the deadline. Failure to obtain a vehicle license on a resident-owned vehicle also may result in a $78 ticket, in addition to the license fee. Licenses can be renewed online beginning in May.
New Residents
A new resident must present a copy of the vehicle registration and proof of residency showing a move-in date within the last 30 days. Acceptable proofs of residency must show that the resident has moved in within the last 30 days and can include a driver's license or state identification card; current electric, gas or water bill; voter registration card; rental lease agreement; or mortgage loan billing statement. New residents can upload the documents for approval if purchasing online or bring the documents to the Parking Services Center in Village Hall, 123 Madison St.
New Vehicles
Newly purchased vehicles must be registered with the Village of Oak Park within 30 days of the purchase.
