Under the direction of the Village Manager, the Village Attorney and Law Department staff serve as in house-counsel to administrative staff, the Village Board and all other Village-supported entities.
The Law Department also directs the services of, and acts as liaison to, all outside counsel retained by the Village.
In addition, in-house legal counsel prepares and reviews all legal documents and ordinances, enforces the municipal code, and defends the Village from lawsuits including civil liability.
Damage to Public Property
When damage occurs to public property, recovery for the cost of fixing or replacing the damage is sought. All such cases, as well as inquiries related to damage associated with Village facilities, equipment or services, are handled by risk management specialists of the Law Department.

Paul Stephanides
Paul L. Stephanides joined the Village of Oak Park in September 2013. He most recently practiced law as an attorney and partner with the Chicago-based law firm of Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas, Lifton & Taylor, Ltd. Prior to that, he was a senior assistant attorney for the City of Naperville, a post he assumed in 1992.
