Parking a Mover's Truck

Mover's trucks must follow the same posted parking restrictions as any other vehicle. If you live on a street where parking is readily available and there are no parking restrictions, a mover's truck may park on the street legally from 6 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. The truck must comply with safety restrictions, such as not blocking a crosswalk or a fire hydrant.

Overnight Parking

If the mover's truck needs to park on the street overnight, a pass is required. Call 708.358.7275 (PARK) to request an overnight parking pass. Since there may be restrictions on the location where you wish the truck to park, consider requesting a pass one week prior to the scheduled moving date.

Parking in Regulated Areas

If you live on a street with parking restrictions, such as permit-only parking or parking meters, and you need to ensure space is available when your mover's truck arrives, you will need to apply for a Right of Way (ROW) Obstruction Permit. This permit also applies to moving containers or storage PODS. The ROW Obstruction Permit allows the holder to place cones or barricades in the street to reserve the parking spaces for the period covered by the permit.

The Permits Process Division in Village Hall, 123 Madison St., issues permits from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. If approved, a permit fee will be assessed - call 708.358.5430 for details. The permit holder is responsible for renting cones or barricades from a private company and placing them - ask for referrals. Please apply for a ROW Obstruction Permit at least one week prior to your scheduled moving date.
